Successful Migration from JDE AS/400 Platform to Microsoft Windows

Project Overview

Smartbridge worked diligently with our client in the migration of their dated JD Edwards AS/400 platform, to a far more efficient Microsoft Windows platform. Throughout this process, Smartbridge overcame various challenges while providing supplemental support to the client’s operational requirements.

The Client

Since their founding in 1981, our client has extended their products and services to a variety of oil and gas applications, earning a reputation as a globally recognized leader in the industry. As a multinational organization, our client operates within a dynamic scale of applications, leaving little room for error or downtime.

The Challenges

Smartbridge faced significant challenges in order to upgrade our client’s JD Edwards environment.

• Upgrading from an Outdated Platform

Through their continuous focus to push the operational standard, our client’s technological support could no longer operate within the AS/400 platform. In the past year they have experienced various infrastructure related issues due to the outdated features of AS/400. Further, finding existing components to mitigate technological issues proved extremely difficult due to the outdated nature of the platform.

• No Option to Cease Operations

Smartbridge accepted the task of migrating existing applications to the JDE Windows platform. Due to the continuous demands of our clients products and services, operations were unable to cease during the process.

The Adaptive Approach Towards a Successful Migration

Smartbridge adapted to our clients dynamic business environment during the extensive process, which proved no easy venture. However, because of the professionalism, expertise and flexibility demonstrated by Smartbridge, managerial relations strengthened throughout the process. Some key aspects of the project include:

• Developed an incremental phase approach to migrate our clients JD Edwards platform to mitigate risks.

• Ensured each component was individual tested and validated during migration.

• Provided innovative methods to migrate our clients larger tables, reducing risks during migration.

Results

Through strategic integration within a dynamic environment, successful migration from JDE As/400 to Microsoft Windows was achieved. Because of this much needed migration to our clients application suite, operations will now proceed in a more flexible manner.
