3 Takeaways from Salesforce TrailheaDX 2021

Each year Salesforce holds its TrailheaDX event for developers, admin, consultants, and basically anyone who is building on the Salesforce platform. In this article, one of our Salesforce experts dives into the top 3 highlights from this year’s virtual event.

TrailheaDX has become a yearly ritual for Salesforce developers, admin, architects, and leaders to get together. At the event, they discover best practices and new ways to build apps on Salesforce as well as extend the Salesforce Customer 360 platform. The recently concluded 2021 virtual edition allowed us to get a sneak peek into what’s coming up in the Salesforce ecosystem. The theme of this year’s event was “Trailblazer Success From Anywhere” in which Salesforce leadership and experts presented how customers can leverage the Customer 360 platform from anywhere.

There were plenty of announcements and demos to excite the Salesforce community, so here are a few interesting takeaways I got out of this event.

Salesforce is the #1 Low Code Platform

As noted by one of my colleagues in this blog post, even though Salesforce has traditionally gained a reputation for being the leading CRM software, we have always seen it as a complete app development platform. Salesforce leadership has now acknowledged this fact and branded the Salesforce Customer 360 as the #1 Low Code Development platform. Salesforce’s vision is to bring app development closer to anyone who has the creativity but may not have the coding knowledge.

Here are the tools available in the platform to build apps with clicks, not code:

App Builder

The Lightning App Builder is a point-and-click tool that makes it easy to create custom pages for the Salesforce mobile app and Lightning Experience, giving your users what they need all in one place. The Lightning App Builder is also a one-stop shop for configuring Lightning apps.

Flow Builder

Salesforce Flow Builder automates business processes and performs actions within Salesforce or external systems. Flow Builder is a point-and-click tool that makes flow development easy.

Flow Orchestrator

Flow Orchestrator is an upcoming tool that lets you create orchestrations, which are multi-step processes that interact with multiple users. Each orchestration is an ordered list of screen flows. This tool is expected to be in beta in Summer 2021.

MuleSoft Composer

Salesforce’s no code solution for integration allows admins to quickly unlock data, connect apps, and automate integrations to boost productivity.

Salesforce Has Its Architect’s Backs

Salesforce has provided a lot of guidance to architects to extend and integrate Salesforce per user needs. There are a ton of resources available for architects here. Two new resources recently added to this site were discussed during the Salesforce TrailheaDX 2021 event:

Data Integration Guide

There are many ways to access, synchronize, and share data between Salesforce and external systems. This guide walks through the landscape of data integration tools available from Salesforce.

Salesforce Diagrams

Diagrams are a key part of architectural work. Diagrams communicate ideas to many different kinds of stakeholders with many different needs. Salesforce developed guidance to empower everyone to build accurate and understandable Salesforce diagrams and even made templates available.

Salesforce Makes AWS Integration a Breeze

Salesforce announced extending their partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Expansion of their global strategic partnership will make it easy for customers to use the full set of Salesforce and AWS capabilities together to quickly build and deploy powerful, new business applications that accelerate digital transformation.

For example, data from a Relational Database Service (RDS) hosted on AWS can now be directly accessed from Salesforce just like a native Salesforce object without copying the data over to Salesforce. Developers can configure any Salesforce page to show AWS data and allow users to edit the data directly from Salesforce.

AWS integration also allows AWS to publish Salesforce platform events. This means an action in AWS can trigger a change in Salesforce in real-time.

These were just a few key takeaways from the Salesforce TrailheaDX 2021 virtual event, but you can still view all the sessions here. We’re excited to explore the new features Salesforce has to offer and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
