The Importance of Trace and Track in the Food Industry
Food service organizations have to meet supply chain requirements set by the FDA. Lot tracing and tracking can help companies in the food industry remain compliant, manage inventory, and more.
In 2013, Congress enacted the Drug Supply Chain Security Act. This act is described by the FDA as such: “The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) outlines requirements for manufacturers, repackagers, wholesale distributors, dispensers, and third-party logistics providers (trading partners). Some requirements began in November 2014 and several key requirements began at various stages in 2015. The requirements, development of standards, and the system for product tracing will continue to be phased in until 2023. FDA will continue working with trading partners and other stakeholders to effectively implement the requirements.” (source)
Because of the requirements of the DSCSA, it’s imperative for the food service industry to properly trace and track their supply chain inventory to ensure they are meeting the requirements.
