ERP Upgrade and Shift to the Cloud for an Oilfield Services Company
Client Background
Our client is an industry-leading provider of asset-light oilfield solutions across the full well lifecycle including drilling, completion, and production-related products and services. They used Oracle JD Edwards as their primary ERP system to support all their divisions. Solution
Smartbridge reviewed various cloud options, designed and proposed upgrading and migrating JDE environments to the latest 9.2 version, and, using Oracle OCI as IaaS, leveraged the automated provisioning methodology. The benefits include being code current, rapid deployment, high availability, easy scalability, and reduced costs.
Our team managed and executed the project as per the plan and under budget. We migrated the JDE environments to OCI, upgraded to the new version, coordinated infrastructure application functionality testing with client personnel, obtained User Acceptance Testing (UAT) signoff, turned off on-premise, and activated the cloud production instance for ongoing usage. We transitioned the managed support services to support the client’s JDE applications running on the new cloud infrastructure.
Results
The upgrade and cloud migration was completed successfully, and the ERP system is running smoothly. Risks associated with on-premise hardware and software failures, backups, and disaster recovery were mitigated. The client enjoys close to 100% uptime, a significant improvement from the prior uptime, and a ready to scale and implement common ERP across all their divisions.
